Incessant Asking

Alysa says:

My daughter has been asking me every day, numerous times a day when her birthday is going to be. "Is it the other day?" "Is it tomorrow?" I've been explaining and explaining but today I decided to show her. I did fall colors as her birthday is in October and wrote other important dates on the paper strips (9/11, Opa's birthday, etc). Her birthday paper is a totally different color (blue) from the rest to highlight it.

Besides doing something fun together and teaching her how many days until her birthday, we also discussed and practiced patterning of colors.

I'm hoping this will help her understand when her birthday is and stop the incessant asking.  Love you Brookie!!! (Please excuse the pjs.)

  1. That is such a great idea. Luke was the same way with his birthday - he couldn't differentiate months, weeks, and days. He thought "next month" meant tomorrow, and was frustrated when his birthday didn't come fast enough. I wish we would have done something like that for his birthday. He was the same way about when school started.

  2. Love it! And the jammies are cute!

We did this for the kids one time when they wanted to know when my parents were coming to visit. Every morning it was "Is it today?" And every night before bed "Will it be tomorrow?" So we made a chain all in white except for the colored links that signified important days and the last chain was Grandma and Grandpa's arrival :)
